Vintage Triumph Register / Cars for Sale / TR2
1954 Long Door TR-2 "Time Warp" orig. Calif. Car, Black Plates, Period Speed Equipment

   Next

Description
This is our 1954 TR2 Long-Door, that I've owned for over a decade. Commission #TS-1920L, Engine number TS1721E (which is, of course, original to the car per Standard Register certificate). Body number EB1902. Cylinder head number 1634. (Yes, early TR2 heads actually were numbered by the factory!).

Always a Los Angeles area car until I bought it in 1997. Original British Racing Green/tan leather car with factory wire wheel setup including the special wheel hubs. Repainted a darker green circa 1962 and engine was rebuilt/hot rodded at the time with 87mm. pistons, high-lift Potvin Cam, SAH (or Derrington?) headers, SAH high-performance intake (looks like TR4A - but when did you ever see an original accessory one for a TR2?), Derrington or SAH wood rim steering wheel, original "Triumph" dealer accessory aluminum valve cover, etc. Fast car! 4-speed transmission - not OD. Still has the 48-spoke wires which were original to the car. Original rear axle. Interior all original, right down to the baby-Tenax fasteners, thin grab-handle, etc.

Original top and tonneau cover, but new ones included also. Full new correct leather seat kit and correct rug kit (both from Roadster Factory) for selective upholstery refurbishing at a later date if you desire. New top, but I also have the original one. Original owner's manual, some tools, many old receipts, sales catalog, etc. Engine compartment also all original (except for previously-mentioned speed "goodies") with 2-bolt. carbs, glass-bottle accessory windshield squirter, original coil, inside latch mechanism - all that good stuff...even the original "banded" generator and starter. New wheel cylinders and brake linings last Fall.

This really is a time-warp (or "survivor") black-plate California car that's never been disassembled or buggered-up by children. I'm listing it for sale only because there's another car I'm considering purchasing when the TR2 is sold - but it's not a rush, so neither is the sale of our car. This TR2 is a great car, and it was driven to and shown at the 2009 combined Triumphest/VTR National meet in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Price is US$30,000. For comparison, you may already be aware that a mid-level restored TR2 in this same colour scheme (but without a continuous California history or the now-unobtainable original speed equipment) sold recently in Italy for US$50,000 (#TS2500 - see Sports Car Market magazine, Feb. 2010, page 98). No trades considered unless you have a '27-'29 open Packard or correctly restored '31 Ford Phaeton.

The TR2 is located in Cambria, California, and please come give it a full inspection inside and out, so you can see how good the car really is. Here's a link to the Shutterfly web site, where I've posted nearly 200 pictures of all aspects of the car. The photos had to be resized for posting, but I have the original large-format copies of all photos, which I can send to you if you'd like greater detail. Please email or call with any questions you might have, and thanks for your interest!
